Quantum computing remains a future risk for blockchains, but major networks now treat preparation as urgent work. On June 18, Algorand Foundation outlined a roadmap that targets broad quantum resilience by the end of 2027. The plan covers user accounts, wallet tools, multisignature systems, validator research, and core security processes.
The foundation said the work builds on cryptographic steps it began in 2022. That year, the network introduced Falcon-signed State Proofs to protect historical blockchain data. Then, on 3 November last year, the chain recorded its first post-quantum transaction using Falcon signatures. Since then, mainnet activity has passed 140,000 post-quantum transactions.
Algorand Sets A Clear Security Timeline
The roadmap starts with native Falcon-1024 account support in the third quarter of 2026. Developers also expect updates for Pera, AlgoKit, and related wallet infrastructure during that stage. As a result, users should gain clearer paths toward post-quantum account protection.
Later in 2026, the foundation plans post-quantum multisignature tools and staking improvements. It also plans support for Falcon-512 signatures. These additions should help exchanges, custodians, and institutional wallets test stronger signing methods before broader deployment.

The foundation also wants account migration tools that keep normal network activity moving. Therefore, users could shift to quantum-resistant security models without major disruption. The plan also includes hybrid accounts that combine existing signatures with post-quantum signatures.
Wallet Upgrades Form the First Step
The account work marks only part of the wider security plan. Beyond wallets, researchers will study replacements for technology that supports validator selection and network messaging. They will also assess post-quantum verifiable random functions and consensus communication.
This research matters because blockchain security depends on more than private keys. Networks also need secure randomness, strong validator coordination, and reliable proof systems. Therefore, the transition could require years of testing across live infrastructure.
According to the foundation’s chief technology officer, Bruno Martins, this roadmap demonstrates a security approach that is focused on the future. He said that initial milestones will begin in 2026 and widescale deployment will be in late 2027. The chief scientific officer of the foundation, Chris Peikert, also cautioned that live protocol migration requires years.
Crypto Networks Face A Longer Transition
The announcement arrives as governments and technology companies push quantum-safe standards. On Tuesday, France’s cybersecurity agency, ANSSI, said it will stop certifying products without quantum-resistant encryption from 2027. The agency wants companies to build only quantum-safe products by 2030.
In the United States, the National Security Agency has set similar pressure points. New national security systems must use approved quantum-resistant algorithms from 1 January 2027. Existing non-quantum-resistant systems must phase out by the end of 2030.
Meanwhile, Google has set a 2029 target for its own post-quantum transition. The company has cited rapid progress in quantum hardware and error correction. Those timelines have added urgency across industries that rely on long-term cryptographic protection.

Crypto teams have also started publishing their own plans. Circle released a roadmap in April for its Arc blockchain. Ripple also plans XRP Ledger testing in 2026, with quantum readiness targeted for 2028. In addition, Sonic described a post-quantum path for its proof-of-stake chain in April. Ethereum researchers have also explored low-cost account protection that could avoid a hard fork.
